We Analyzed 25,000 Trades of a 74% Winrate Polymarket Trader

Every trade on Polymarket settles on-chain, which means every trader’s full history is public. We took one of the top Up/Down traders from the leaderboard and pulled his complete record: more than 25,000 resolved trades. Headline result - a 74.3% winrate. Sounds like a cheat code. It is not, and the reason why is the most useful lesson in this piece.

How we looked at it

The dataset is the trader’s on-chain fill history across crypto Up/Down markets: entry prices, sides, window outcomes, coins and timeframes. From it we computed winrate, the average price paid per share, and how results split across coin-timeframe combinations. No screenshots, no self-reported numbers - only what the blockchain recorded.

The key number is not 74.3%

His average entry sits around 68¢ per share. At that price the math is fixed: you need to win about 68.4% of the time just to break even. So the real, spendable edge is 74.3 minus 68.4 - roughly +5.9 percentage points. That is what elite looks like in this game: not a secret 90% system, but a thin, stubborn edge executed with machine-like consistency over tens of thousands of trades. Anyone selling you a strategy with a "90% winrate" either buys 90¢ favorites (breakeven 90%) or is lying.

Keep that baseline in mind: the raw coin is 50/50. He pays ~68¢ for one side - meaning he only enters when, by his read, the true probability is meaningfully higher than what he pays. Win the trade about three times out of four, lose the fourth, repeat 25,000 times.

Where the edge lives - and where it does not

The single most striking pattern: the edge is not evenly distributed. His results are strongest in BTC 5-minute and ETH 5-minute windows. In DOGE 5-minute and ETH 15-minute the same approach shows no edge at all - the numbers hover around breakeven. He is not "good at prediction markets" in general; he is good at two specific coin-timeframe combinations, and the discipline to mostly stay inside them is itself part of the system.

The picture the data paints: he buys the leading side inside the window at elevated prices - a bet that short-window momentum continues more often than the price implies. Whether that read stays profitable forever is unknown; that it has been profitable across 25,000+ recorded trades is a fact.

  1. Open the Up/Down leaderboard and pick a name with a large sample - thousands of trades, not fifty.
  2. Compare winrate to average entry price: winrate above breakeven is the whole game; the gap is the edge.
  3. Look at the split by coin and timeframe: a real edge is usually concentrated, not smeared evenly across everything.

Yes - every fill is recorded on-chain and publicly verifiable. The catch: at his average entry price the breakeven is about 68.4%, so the real edge is roughly six percentage points, not a magic 74.
Can I just copy this trader’s positions?
Mechanical copying is harder than it looks: you enter seconds later at a worse price, and a worse price means a higher breakeven. His 74% may not clear YOUR breakeven. Latency and execution are part of the edge.
Why doesn’t an edge like this disappear?
Thin edges in fast markets persist longer because exploiting them requires infrastructure, discipline and volume. Most participants overpay for favorites or trade every window on feel - that keeps the mispricing alive.

On public leaderboards with full trade histories. Check three things: sample size (thousands of trades, not dozens), winrate versus average entry price, and in which coin-timeframe combos the results hold up.
